The Digital Physical

Illusory Material is a design methodology, computational workflow that breaks down design medium into 'matters', restructuring and reinventing materiality to create unique expressions, forms, properties and experiences.

Virtual Intimacy in the Physical Reality

In the form of interactive spaces, materials, or designs across different scales, we explore how digital tools or information influence the way we live physically and the tangible product we use every day.

We propose to get away from surface limitations in physical design by adding another dimension to the material interface. The technique used relies on several different functioning layers of material, with information embedded into each voxel to create interactive objects. The algorithm allows designers to segment any model into multiple sections for coloring and automatically generate lens geometry that can achieve the desired effect, such as shifting patterns, interactive written content, and even touch-sensitive visual effects.
